CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN HAWTHORN

FOR CHARLOTTE & DAVID, HAWTHORN

Charlotte and David’s kitchen was 30 years old and looked it.  The veneer was starting to peel and the MDF core had started to bulge in places.  The design was out-dated and most of the storage consisted of cupboards, which are very inconvenient to access.  Charlotte found cooking was often an endurance exercise involving walking, climbing and crawling to get the job done!

Charlotte’s old kitchen was cluttered, lacked functionality and storage.

Charlotte knew she wanted a more functional kitchen that would make cooking a joy rather than a chore.  She was tired of the clutter and wanted easy access to all the things she needed while cooking up frenzy!  It was also important that the new kitchen not only enhance, but also be in sympathy with the rest of her home.

Prior to coming to Summit Kitchens, Charlotte had consulted a large, franchise kitchen company.  Often kitchen designers rely on a “kitchen work triangle” which is a concept used to determine efficient kitchen layouts.  Charlotte knew this didn’t feel right for her.

We were so glad Charlotte changed her mind and decided to come and see us.

The lambs tongue edge detail of the White Storm Quartzite benchtops brings a feel of elegance and sophistication.

With the endless variety of cabinetry design and hardware available nowadays, it is possible to refine kitchen design thinking to a much more sophisticated level.  Charlotte wanted her kitchen design to work for her, and not a default concept.

Stepping aside from typical design concepts, Charlotte identified “cluster areas” of her kitchen including preparation, cooking, plating/serving, washing, grocery supplies and ancillary activities.  By clustering these activities, Charlotte’s kitchen design was uniquely tailored to reflect how she works within her kitchen and it allows her to move with ease and efficiency.

Two Tamborech roller doors were integrated to hide regularly used appliances.
The Belfast Double Fireclay sink is a traditional, heavy-duty, fireclay sink that features two full sized bowls for a high degree of functionality and comfort.

Charlotte’s vision gave us a clear understanding of the functional and aesthetic aspects of her new kitchen.  Our design incorporated all of Charlotte’s cluster areas and included a mixture of shallow and deep self-closing drawers together with Hafele Comfort Pull Out drawers for condiments in the cooking and washing up clusters and a dedicated draw for chopping boards, trays and serving platters.  There is plenty of storage space for overflow complimented by dedicated storage areas for frequently used items.

Cooking is a dream in the amazing Falcon Professional Dual Fuel Cooker.

“The staff at Summit Kitchens were very encouraging and respectful of my, at times, fussy requirements and he added value by translating those requirements to very practical solutions to come up with the final detailed specifications for the kitchen. They had endless patience in adjusting, re-inventing and researching the options available”

A bookcase was constructed for quick access to Charlotte’s amazing collection of cookbooks and shelving for loved treasures and artwork be displayed with lighting that really makes the area “pop”.

Charlotte:  “We decided to keep our original terracotta flooring. When installing the kickboards, no effort was spared by Summit Kitchens’ team to ensure they fitted seamlessly with the seriously uneven floor.   They provided us with a quality product that will serve us well for years.”

The lower cabinetry features Albedor “Sheree Square” two-pack painted doors in Dulux Malay Grey with a simple, modern handle.   The upper cabinetry provided a natural contrast with Dulux White Polar.

All the design features come together to create different moods at any time of the day.  During the day the kitchen is light and airy.  At night, the kitchen imbues tranquility creating a great ambiance for an after-dinner coffee.

For Charlotte the kitchen is now the most loved and used area in her home.

Two Vintec beverage coolers built in to the Quartzite bench top provide easy access to drinks for the adjoined entertainment area.
The Premium Biofresh Led Light Liebherr Fridge has been expertly integrated using Albedor Sheree Square panels, two pack painted in Dulux Malay Grey.

“Most importantly, their team had an eye to detail and were meticulous in their construction of the kitchen. For example, due to cost considerations, we decided to keep our original terracotta flooring. When installing the kickboards, no effort was spared by their team to ensure they fitted seamlessly with the seriously uneven floor. Summit Kitchens provided us with a quality product that will serve us well for years.”
